SelectBooks brings books to readers across Oregon and Siskiyou County, California. We believe that when we read together, we build community — and so much more.
The Ford Family Foundation staff curate the SelectBooks collection with the goal of providing up-to-date resources about issues and topics of interest in rural communities. The views expressed by the authors in these books are not necessarily the views of The Ford Family Foundation.

How are books chosen for the collection?
Each book is thoughtfully chosen and reviewed by staff of The Ford Family Foundation with the goal of providing up-to-date resources for readers. Generally books align with the values of The Ford Family Foundation and help readers lean into the current conversations, issues and ideas circulating in rural communities in our region
How often are new books added?
Books are added to the collection twice annually – in the spring and the fall. At that time, we also remove books from the collection. We hope you will return often to see what’s new!
Who can order from the SelectBooks collection?
The SelectBooks collection is available to any resident of Oregon and Siskiyou County, California.
Can I order multiple books at a time?
No, readers may only order one book at a time. After you’ve received and read your book, return to the site to complete a quick review. Then you may order another title.
Is there a cost for books?
All books are available for FREE. There is no charge for shipping.
That seems too good to be true. What’s the catch?
There is no catch! We just ask that you help us be good stewards of these resources by reading, reflecting and sharing new ideas or insights with the people around you. Then pass it along to someone else who could benefit or share it in a free library.
What if I have a recommendation for SelectBooks?
How long will it take for me to receive a book?
Our SelectBooks team is small but dedicated to making sure you get these free resources and that we continue to improve the experience for readers. It may take two to three weeks for you to receive your order, depending on the popularity of books and possible backorders. Orders are batched weekly and sent for processing every Thursday evening. Our goal is to have orders processed and fulfilled by the following Tuesday. Depending on where you live in the region, the shipment may take several days to reach you.
When your book ships, you will receive an email that it is on the way. If a multiple weeks have passed and you still have not received notification, please let us know using this contact form.
How do I leave a review for a book I ordered?
Before checking out, the website will remind you to leave a review for your last book order. We ask that you please take the time to do so, as your answers to the question inform how our team curates the SelectBooks collection.
Steps to complete a book review:
- Navigate to the page of the book you ordered last or click the link provided on the checkout page.
- Scroll slightly down the book page to just below the book where you should see “Reviews.”
- Select all the boxes that apply and leave an optional comment for the SelectBooks team. Reviews are not public.
- Click the “Submit” button.
- You may now return to the checkout screen and complete your order for your next book.
The site is not allowing me to place another book order. Why not?
Make sure that you have left a review for your previous book before placing another book order. If you navigate to the book page and know that you have completed your review and you still have troubles, please reach out to our team using the contact form.
