Neither is a lovely book. So colorful. This book can easily lead to a discussion
about being different; and it doesn’t matter.
This will go into my Free Little Library.

Super cute book about inclusion and diversity. It also highlights how harmful exclusionary practices can be, and how it makes others feel. I like how this book also has the dialogue bubbles which can be a fun way to partner read for students. This book would be a great starter book for bigger conversations.

Great book on inclusivity and diversity. I love that it can be used a very simplistic level, (we are all different and that is ok). Or can be used to inspire much high level and deeper level thinking on topics of inclusivity as it may relate to gender, ethnicity, race, religion, economic, or more.

I expected this to be a book about ‘being different’ but it turned out to give off big trans agenda vibes. There are only two ways to be! NO there are infinite ways in all the rainbow colors!

Which is fine, if that’s what you are looking for in toddler literature. But if not, this might not be the book for you 🤷‍♀️

In Neither by Airlie Anderson, the story is about a creature who doesn’t quite fit into any of the categories that everyone around them seems to fit into. Feeling like they don’t belong, the creature goes on a journey to find where they fit in and learns to accept themselves. The book uses colorful illustrations and a touching story to highlight themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and the value of being unique.

I love the message this book sends to Young children. We live in such a judgmental world that can’t handle other people living their lives how they see fit. In large part it’s a generational misunderstanding that others being different from us is inherently a bad thing. So I think this is a great book to end the awful cycle of judgment. Also it has very adorable art and beautiful colors. The writing also has a nice flow along with the awesome message.
