Never Too Late
The Adult Student’s Guide to College
This book offers practical advice for adult students pursuing a college degree while also juggling work, raising a family, and managing other responsibilities. Infused with charts and checklists, as well as personal stories from adult students, it engagingly addresses questions like: What should I study? How can I afford college? Which college should I attend? What campus resources are available to me? The “non-traditional” college student is the new normal, and this book is a comprehensive resource for ambitious adults seeking a degree.

This book is a comprehensive guide for adults who are thinking about going—or going back—to college and want to know how to do it well. I did it a long time ago and would have appreciated having a book such as this…. I am helping a 30+ return to school and this book will be very useful.
Returning to school is a major undertaking, ha! For anyone returning to school presents different challenges than a freshly minted high school graduate. Although the “non-traditional” undergraduate student is part of the new normal, looking for “how to” is not always easy.
Never Too Late asks some good questions— What should I study? How can I afford the time and money required to get a college degree? How do I compare schools? With chapters on flexibility (“It’s About Time!” and “Face-to-Face” and other topics for refelxion), “how too” …. And other rational topics – the book is useful for jumpstarting the return to school and is a good reference for anyone looking to “jump!”

There is a lot of good information in the book. Covers most areas of going back to school. The one area that isn’t covered is where a person could look for scholarships and ways to pay for college.

This is a great book! I work with adult learners and this is a wonderful, comprehensive guide that will allow me to help students plan their college return, and also help guide them through what questions to ask.

I originally checked this book out thinking about transfer students. While this is an overall good book, I think it is best for students who are starting college and not transfer students. Other than, overall a good book.

For those who are unsure where to begin, this book has so much information and easy to read and make decisions. It’s the perfect guide for those graduating high school and adults who want to go back or go to college for the first time.

Never Too Late helps adults explore options and decisions to determine if continuing education is the right choice for them. It is very detailed and comprehensive and would aid in finding the right school, program and options for payment. I was already attending a distance grad school when I selected this book as I thought it would provide information and tips and how to be effective going to school with work and family, which is not the focus of the book, or even a main theme. I do plan on donating this book to the local community college because I think this could be helpful for those exploring the idea of going back to school, more so than as a tool for those already going to school.

The insights provided in this book are spot on for mid- or late-career aged students or juniors in high school preparing for post-secondary educational opportunities. The transparent approach to building a support structure and persevering through adversity provides learners with a clear path to success. One area to develop in a revised edition is Engagement (on campus or to program specific activities, clubs or opportunities.) Great book for initial college entry!
