Me on the Map
Me on the Map does a great job of teaching kids how to use a map, taking the child from the map of their room all the way out to a map of the world and back again. While the book helps children see their own communities as special, it also helps put their community in the context of the larger world. For ages 3-7.

Reading this book to my young daughter brought me back to my childhood when I used to draw maps of my bedroom, house, etc. This book is very simple and covers the different types of maps you could have and how they embed into each other or expand into a bigger picture of the world.

We loved this book for our 6 year old. It zooms out, then zooms back in again. Great to establish scale. And one that I can see us reading again and again, while her mind grows.

This is a cute book that helps kids develop a sense of where they are spatially in the world. Building a good mental map of where you are in the world is so helpful for understanding geography.
The only minor complaint I had was that the map of the girl’s city in the beginning of the book did not match the one at the end. But then I make maps for a living so that kind of thing stands out to me.
