Our Towns
A 100,000 Mile Journey into the Heart of America
“Our Towns” chronicles the authors’ five-year journey across the United States in a small plane. The husband-wife team visits dozens of towns to explore the challenges facing the communities — from economic hardships to the scourge of drugs. They also document the common characteristics that underwrite success in those towns — energy, generosity, determination, compassion and determination. The final chapter summarizes the 10 signs of a thriving city. The book is an uplifting look at the future and how problem-solving begins locally.

This book is truly one to read. It talks about James and Deborah and their journey across the country. It is positively patriotic and I encourage anybody to read it. Especially the people that are in major cities as it’s important for us to not forget about the towns in the middle of the country.

I found this book very informative. It took me to places I have never traveled to as well as others that I have. The married couple wrote together but different ways to show the reader how each town survived changes during difficult times. Everyone should read this book especially if their community needs help in keeping the next generation from leaving.

This book was presented well. The authors were very invested in their adventure through small town America. The issue that I had Was the size of the print, not easy to read.

A slow but interesting read. I enjoy little peeks inside other people’s lives, learning about our differences and similarities, what life is like in states I’ve never experienced…pleasant reading.

This book was an unexpected treat. I appreciated the author’s thoughtful explanation of just what it takes to help little towns succeed. Our little town was also mentioned in the book. What an unexpected treat! Thank you Select Books!
