With the intention of helping along either my youngest child to one of my older ones that still struggles to read a bit, this book feels like it’ll be a helpful tool and I am glad I found it here.

As a reader, I really wanted my son to be able to dive into a good book too and get lost into another world. This book really helps you understand how to start and nurture that fondness for books.

The physical structure of this book is very appealing. The cover is thick but not too heavy. Each illustration has well balanced colors and use of space compared to the text. The book is broken into parts per age group and is easy to navigate if you want to look for something specific. Within each section there are things to support adults as readers for the age group, things to look for and to avoid, as well as many book suggestions appropriate for that level.

A very practical book. I love it and will return to it regularly. As someone raised by a single mother who could not read, I had only read 3 of the many books mentioned here. I only wish there were footnotes for the occasional reference to authors that I assume are otherwise well known. And I only wish I had read this book before my baby shower; it is an incredible resource for someone looking for guidance on how to curate a child’s library!

The book is clearly written, thoughtfully presented, and extremely helpful for parents, teachers and others who want to encourage young readers.
